Holiday Hours
And yet another reason to store your wine at the Cave:
Closed Christmas and New Years Day.
Open normal hours all other days. How does this help you? Because everyone else closes early on the Eve's, and you have to run around like a crazy person to get all those procrastinated errands done. The Cave is one errand that will wait for you.

Happy Hannukah
I confess...a nice rainy Friday (though it's my Wednesday), I'm pretty much playing hooky down here today, hanging out, watching Bowie and Iggy and Leonard Cohen videos on Youtube.
Kind of a nice place and a nice way to chill.
(no, that's not a bonfire in the middle of The Cave, though I kind of wish it were. Brrrr.)

The Great Cave Social Experiment.
I thought it might be a good idea to try building shelves so I can offer it as a service, which I now can - basic shelves for your locker at $20.00 a pop, parts and labor included. I practiced on the oddest shape locker we have and thought now that I have a locker with all these shelves in it, why not offer an alternative to renting a whole locker if you happen to need just a little bit space? Maybe you make your own wine and want to try aging a bit of it as an experiment. Maybe your current locker is full and you don't need a whole new one. Maybe you simply need just a little bit of locker.
Behold: really bad pictures of The Manager's Locker. It is an odd shaped space and each shelf holds five standard-sized cases (Charles Shaw). I would be the only one to have a key, and would oversee every visit (to ensure people are dealing with only their shelves.) I'm also more than happy to keep an inventory if that would make things more comfortable, but this is not for the feint of heart, the obsessive compulsive, the keeper of checks and balances. It is a casual option that is for the trusting person who wants an option that is different from the standard offering. $60.00/shelf/yr.

au revoir, a jamais.
It truly bums me out when someone leaves The Cave, be it a simple relocation, a new home cellar, a moving on of interests, or, mostly, a luxury that has become
unaffordable. And please do know, while we're on the subject, that if there is a way we can help you keep your wine, options are certainly available.
We've had a good run of it here, six months with not one person leaving us, au contraire, a good dozen or so new faces. But we lost one today, and as he was shifting boxes he showed this to me, a really beautiful thing to see, and worthy of a much better show than that given by my Cracker Jack cell phone.
