Bernie Madoff's wine collection was auctioned off yesterday, bringing in about twice its value. Here is the story on Forbes.com, including this comment: "The descriptions prove particularly interesting, indicating that Madoff didn’t take very good care of his wine collection."
(May I take a moment here to encourage any aspiring jailbirds to store your wine here at The Cave so that when your moment in the mud occurs, someone somewhere has the chance to think there was at least one actual bone in all your spine.)
And here is the run down on what he had, what the lot was going for, and what it actually got. In addition to stealing a lot of money, it might appear Mr. Madoff also had a fondness for stealing mini-bar bottles of vodka and gin from the very nice hotels he stayed at, and which sold for over $300.
If you scroll down the Forbes page, you'll see other posts you can click onto, like "Bernie Madoff's Shoe Fetish," which I can't bring myself to look at. Seems to me all this is reason enough not to destroy hundreds of peoples lives; everyone finds out about your shoe fetish. Your wine, the yacht, the shoes...eventually your underpants with the shot elastic waistband.
(Is this Bernie Madoff now?)
